#1 on the line

This weekend the Lethbridge Curling Club is holding its annual Dunlop Ford Club Championship. The event features the best teams from the women’s, men’s and open leagues.

“It’s a great way to feature our best teams in the club one last time before we shut down for the year,” said curling club manager Dave Manser.

After a long season there are a few top teams calling it quits before the championship.

“It’s been a long year of curling and our team has decided that we should take the rest of the year off,” said Brenna Draper.

Draper is part of Team Draper which is in fifth place overall in Wednesday open league and poised to finish first in the A pool for the second square of the year.

This will also be the last bonspiel with Manser as GM. Next year the club will be run by Brett Nicol, the former manager of the Coaldale Granite Club.

Nicol will take over as GM on March 30 during the club’s annual general meeting. He will be taking over for the last year at the current location, before the new athletic centre opens on the Westside for 2016-17 curling season.
