Neptune, the Planet of Mystery

strology is much more complex than 12 Zodiac signs and a daily horoscope.

Astrology takes into account every planet in our solar system, as well as asteroids, your Ascendant, Midheaven and 12 Houses (which I will detail in further columns).

Each week I’ve been explaining a planet’s meaning in astrology. We’ve been moving from the sun outwards, and have reached the second last known planet in our solar system: Neptune.

Enter a world of dreams and illusion and you’ll find yourself in the domain of Neptune. This planet holds power over fantasy and imagination.

Neptune represents the unreal and unexplainable, such as inspiration, faith, religion and mysticism. This planets influence is subtle, gentle, ethereal and otherworldly.

Neptune gets his name from the Roman god of the sea who ruled over all forms of water. Water symbolizes the subconscious, hidden memories and intuition, all areas that Neptune has control over. Just like the depth of water, with Neptune comes great depth of understanding.

Dream interpretation and psychic ability come from this planet. Neptune helps a person unite with a higher consciousness, giving the strong feeling that we’re all somehow connected.

Neptune is a relief from the earthly world, a portal to the heavens. However, taken to extremes this can have a negative impact, such as the escapist overuse of drugs and alcohol. Other destructive characteristics of Neptune are deception, confusion, fraud and treachery.

Neptune is the ruling planet of Pisces, the final sign of the Zodiac. Pisces is a compassionate sign, deeply intuitive with a strong connection to the spiritual realm.

It takes Neptune nearly 165 years to completely orbit the Sun, spending approximately 14 years in each sign. This gives Neptune a generational influence, so people from the same era will share characteristics.

Your Neptune sign speaks of how your generation will make history. This can be seen easily in retrospect. For example, during the decade of the 1960’s with Neptune in Scorpio we saw a rise in drug culture, while music was often trance-like, dark and mysterious.

My Neptune is in Capricorn. This placement brings humanity and emotion to my cold and calculating ambitious vision.

To learn the Neptune sign you share with your generation make a birth profile on astrotheme.com. You’ll need your time, date and place of birth.

Your Neptune sign will give clues to your generation’s collective spiritual destiny. It will help you find your higher connection to the supernatural world we live in.
