First, let me start off by saying I do not have my own opinion on who should have won the American untitled-1election on Nov. 8. The people have spoken and Donald Trump has been elected. Honestly, I feel like that should be the end of the story there.

That being said, people will be whining over who got elected.

Here in Canada we’re currently outsiders looking into America. We don’t get all of the media coverage the United States does. We get what’s forced onto us, that’s been filtered through the media here. Hillary’s e-mail scandal was basically blown off, while any and everything that Trump has done was blown up over every media outlet we will see.

That is unless you actually know someone who lives in the states, or was against Clinton. Not that I have an opinion on who won or how it will be for the US, I am getting unbelievably sick over how everyone is constantly saying “rest in peace America” or “here comes World War III.” It’s sad that people won’t actually look into the backgrounds of people. They only form an opinion on what they’ve been fed on different media.

Everyone overlooks Hillary’s e-mail scandal. Even the FBI threw the case out twice. Twice. According to the BBC, an FBI investigation believed that no reasonable prosecutor would bring a criminal case against Clinton, and that simply her and her aides were extremely careless. Then again in October, the FBI decided to examine more newly discovered emails sent and received by Clinton. On Nov. 6, two days before voting booths opened, the FBI announced it stood by its original decision. Clinton would not face criminal charges.

She was gutsy enough to have her own server. In her own home. For every single piece of electronic correspondence that she sent both personal and work e-mails. According to Cornell Law, “Whoever, having the custody of any such record, proceeding, map, book, document, paper, or other thing, willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies, or destroys the same, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both; and shall forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States.” As used in this subsection, the term “office” does not include the office held by any person as a retired officer of the Armed Forces of the United States.” So how did she get away with it twice? What she did is illegal.

I don’t believe that Trump is a great candidate either. He hasn’t been an outstanding citizen and is been chock full of controversy, stemming many decades. He’s sued people for saying he was only worth so much. Sounds ridiculous, but he did. Ultimately, the case was tossed.

This wasn’t even his worst controversy. He’s allegedly forced himself on women, forcing them to have sex with him. This included his former wife, Ivana, in 1989. That case ended when his former right hand man, Michael Cohen, threatened and claimed incorrectly that a man cannot legally rape his wife. These are just two of the multiple controversies that Trump has been involved in.

Two candidates ripe with their own downfalls. That’s not even my biggest issue with the American election.

My biggest issue is that this is all that we see on social media. It seems like it is all Canada is focusing on. Yes, it will affect us. No, I do not need to see it all over my Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and every time I bloody well open a website.

This fire of social media postings has actually prompted me to delete by Facebook for the time being until the heat of this election wears off.

Yes, I care about my neighbouring country. Yes, I care about what will happen. Yes, I care how this will divide the states and those living there. No, I don’t care for every single social media update.

Although I believe that Hillary Clinton’s concession speech that happened this morning should have been the absolute be all and end all to this election, we all know this won’t be. This shall be the story that never ends.
