LCSA’s efforts going unnoticed?

LCSA Recreation Manager, JP Gentile works on his computer Tuesday morning in the LCSA at Lethbridge College.

The Lethbridge College Students Association does all they can for students who attend Lethbridge College, but is it going unnoticed?

At Lethbridge College, students have many opportunities and most those opportunities start with the LCSA.

The LCSA puts on intramural’s every year, but even with the highest enrolment rates in 10 years at Lethbridge College, the amount of students playing in these leagues is still low.

“We never know what we’re going to get with intramural’s. It’s really a hit and miss,” said LCSA Recreation Manager, JP Gentile.

The LCSA offers 4 intramural sports which includes ice hockey, floor hockey, basketball, and volleyball.

One of the problems that is noticed is the LCSA’s voice to first year students and lack of interest.

“Most first year students don’t know about the sports the LCSA puts on and it usually takes them about a semester to really get to know what goes on here at the college,” added Gentile.

One of the most powerful of the 4 intramural sports offered is ice hockey. The ice hockey is played at the Enmax Centre, home of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

“Having the games played there is so convenient because it’s so close to the school, and it also makes the games that much more fun because the arena is so beautiful,” said student of Lethbridge College, Brayden Kohut.

It’s Kohut’s second year playing in the intramural’s and thinks it’s absurd that they don’t get more playing.

“It’s such a fun league to go out and play some hockey with friends, I don’t know how more people don’t want to get in on this and take advantage of what the LCSA does for us,”

Reaching out to students can be tough, especially when school is just beginning, and first year students are still just feeling out the school, and sometimes even the city.

The LSCA hopes they can reach out to more people in years to come so they can continue to put on these intramural’s for the students, because it’s something they don’t want to leave behind.
