Meter maids of the world

untitled-1

Everyone loves the taste of freedom that comes with owning a car. From the young to the old, there’s always that sense of excitement the second you sit behind the wheel.

There are set payments that you know always come with owning a car. Insurance payments, filling your tank and every little problem that arises that involves a mechanic. Those things can add up.

One thing that is never expected are parking tickets.

Sure you know if you’re going to get a speeding ticket when you go cruising past a police officer, or a radar ticket if you blow through a light.

These are pretty common tickets.

Parking tickets aren’t included because you rarely ever know that you’re going to get one.

Commissionaires involved with bylaw enforcement are some of those responsible for giving those parking tickets. Or as I like to call them meter maids.

Yes, there are people that park like complete idiots, but not everyone deserves a ticket from the meter maids. Especially if one of them is ever so kind enough to write you one, come back ten minutes later, then write you another one.

I was the recipient of this last year. The guy had the audacity to write me a ticket at 10:48 a.m., go and give another person a ticket and come back and give me another ticket at 10:56 a.m. In less than a 10-minute span I had over 30 dollars in tickets to pay. Not overly expensive tickets when paid in a timely matter, but still enough to put a dent in a college students pocket.

Albeit, yes they are just doing their jobs. If someone is parked where they shouldn’t be or for substantial amounts of time ticketing them would be the way to go.

Sometimes it can’t be helped. Sometimes you have to leave your vehicle parked for reasons beyond your control.

Commissionaires have a tough job, people don’t respect them, but why should someone when they go around acting like kings who own parking stalls?

Metres run out, sometimes you get stuck in places longer than you anticipated and metres only accept a certain amount of money for time.
