A look back at 2011

It’s a new year and with that comes new memories to be made.
During the first few weeks of January, besides putting off our new year resolutions, some of us may like to reflect on what 2011 had in store.
Maybe some hope this new year will bring bigger and better things, while others can’t imagine anything topping the year they just had.
Before all of us truly get in to the rhythm of 2012, let’s take a look back at some memorable moments of 2011.

Winning! Charlie Sheen’s outrageous rants, those that coined the term ‘winning’, were perhaps the craziest and funniest celebrity interviews of the year.

The term ‘tiger blood’ was also coined during his rants. When asked how he’s survived the amount of drugs he’s done, his answer was simple, “Because I’m different, with a different brain and because I’ve got tiger blood, man.”

He was also quoted saying “you can’t process me with a normal brain.” Perhaps this is why he always seems crazy to us.

Occupy Wall Street. Beginning in September, this people-powered movement became front-page news when protesters gathered in New York. The movement is dedicated to fighting the role of Wall Street and the power that major banks and multinational corporations have over the democratic process.

What began at Liberty Square in Manhattan’s financial district, spread all across the U.S.A and even made its way to Lethbridge.

The protest group started at city hall and made their way downtown, chanting, some with signs in hand.

The Royal Wedding. Perhaps one of the most memorable and most watched events of the year was the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Around 12 million Canadians tuned in, at all hours of the morning, to watch one of the most extravagant weddings of the year, maybe even the century.

Steve Jobs and Jack Layton. Two influential men were both overtaken by cancer. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs reinvented the face of technology, was a profound visionary leader and one of the most significant leaders in the industry.

Canada also lost NDP leader Layton. Layton lead his party to one of its most successful election results ever. He was known for his support for workers rights, the democratic process and decades of public service that included time at Toronto city hall and Parliament Hill.

Beiber’s baby drama. How could we forget the day when Justin Bieber was called a father? It was due time for a fanatic to claim her newborn as Bieber’s and that fanatic was 20 year old Mariah Yeater.

Yeater claimed Bieber fathered her three-month-old son, even though he denied it all. Paternity tests were done and, to no real surprise, were negative.
