Basketball Kodiaks have slam dunk start

Kodiaks men’s and women’s basketball teams won their home games on Oct. 22.


The women’s final score was 60-57. The SAIT Trojans were winning 8-4 about half way through the first period but the score ended up being 12-12 by the time the first period was up. Mackenzie Meeks scored after a cross-court pass from Brittany Pekar. Jenelle Gieske scored as well.

The Kodiaks used foul shots to pull themselves ahead in the second period. Lots of strong passing, shooting, and defence gave the Kodiaks a 34-22 lead ending the second period.The Trojans closed the gap to 34-30 following the second period.The Kodiaks remained in the lead in the third period and the fourth periods. The player of the game was Brittany Pekar and the top scorer was Lindsey Pierson with 16 points. The men finished their game winning 102-78. The Trojans started with the lead but the Kodiaks pulled ahead late in the first period to finish it 29-12.
Good offence and defence allowed the Kodiaks to gain a 17-point lead early in the second period and they finished the period ahead, 46-26. Craig McMurray, along with teammates, took great shots that allowed the Kodiaks to remain in the lead throughout the third period.
Sean McCormick had a steal that put the Kodiaks at 70 points. The player of the game and top scorer was McCormick with 29 points.
