Blame it on the love

Galt Gardens was swarming with people last Saturday, as the biggest outdoor record fair in Western Canada took place.

University of Lethbridge radio station CKXU hosted its fourth annual outdoor record fair, Love and Records.

The event brought with it, people from all across the country looking to buy or sell records. It was also a great place for lesser known bands such as Calgary’s The Outlaws of Ravenhurst, Edmonton’s The Wet Secrets, and Vancouver natives Invasive, to showcase their talents.

Branden Hamilton, CKXU music director and Love & Records organizer, believes the sense of ownership of records is based on the popularity. Hamilton says record collections are impressive, captivating to others who share the same interest in music.

Ryan Grieve of Blueprint Entertainment has noticed and upswing in the popularity of vinyl records.

“They never went away,” says Grieve. “I’ve been buying records since I was about sixteen, so that’s about ten years ago. And I’ve always gone to record shops.”

Love and Records is just one half of the celebration. Record Store Day is another annual vinyl event occurring in April. Check out CKXU’s website for more details at http://www.ckxu.com/.
