Blooming communities being rewarded

Coaldale has been awarded for its stunning town this year by winning the Communities in Bloom provincial competition.

This summer the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association assessed many communities on their forestry, floral displays, landscape, cleanliness, heritage conservation and environmental action.

The town was awarded a perfect score of five blooms, tying with Taber, Strathmore and Drayton Valley. However, Coaldale came number one in its category (population 6,001-15,000) with the highest ranking to seal the win.

Lethbridge is known as a Community in Bloom community and recently its Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden has been recognized nationally in Home Hardware’s 2011 calendar.

Lethbridge has been participating in Communities in Bloom since it has been established. This year the city participated in the National edition of Communities in Bloom, but the results have not yet gone public.

Monique Gargano-Charron, program director, said the awards Ceremony would take place in Quebec on Oct. 29. The public will hear if Lethbridge made the list after that date.
