Blues beat Kodiaks in BMO 2012 CCAA Championship game three

The Dawson College Blues upset the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in game three of the BMO 2012 CCAA Women’s National Championship.

The top scorers for the Blues were Marilyse Roy and Jenn Silver with 13 points each, while Lisa Ivanics scored 19 points for the Kodiaks.

The Kodiaks won the tip-off to start the game but unfortunately, that was the last of their momentum for a while.  The Dawson College Blues had a quick interception and scored the first two baskets.

The Blues built up an 8-0 lead on the Kodiaks before Lisa Ivanics scored the first basket for the Kodiaks.

The Blues didn’t let the Kodiaks have anything. Marilyse Roy answered back with a three pointer and Janice Quintos stole a break-away and sank a basket, making the score 13-2.

In the last seconds of the first quarter Lindsey Pierson threw up a long shot and sunk a three to finish off the first quarter with a score of 29-19 in favour of the Blues.

Starting the second quarter, the Blues scored the first basket again, but Pierson answered right back driving it to the hoop to sink a lay up.

The Kodiaks struggled to get rebounds, and gave the Blues the opportunity to score. The Blues scored two baskets and a three-pointer and finished the first half 54-32.

It was a slow start for both teams in the second half. Both teams showed to be a little off their game in the third quarter and made some bad passes, missed easy shots and drew several fouls.

The Blues finished the third quarter 67-46.

Starting the fourth quarter, Jenn Silver scored her third three-pointer of the game for the Blues. Silver is ranked number one in Canada for three-pointers.

The Kodiaks rattled the Blues cage a bit with their half court press. They came back stronger but could never come within 10 points of the Blues.

Ivanics received player of the game for the Kodiaks with 19 points and Roy won player of the game for the Blues with 13 points.
