Some students graduating from the broadcast journalism program at Lethbridge College will spend the next month getting ready for a final showcase of their work.
Collide-O-Scope, which will be held April 28, is a year-end event put together by students in the school of media and design. It includes programs in fashion design and marketing, multimedia production, interior design and communication arts.
The event, which is essentially a fashion show, will be filmed and webcast by students in the communication arts program, majoring in broadcast journalism.
During their two years in the program, students have learned skills relevant to the field they plan to enter. Instructor George Gallant says these skills will be on full display at Collide-O-Scope.
“Students in second-year broadcast journalism will be hosting or MCing the event. Second-year and first-year students will be doing the webcasting production – running cameras, audio, switching, etc.”
The broadcast journalism students played a large role in the execution of the BMO 2012 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship held at the college from March 15-17. The students filmed and hosted each of the games.
Gallant says planning for the broadcast side of Collide-O-Scope will begin now that the students are no longer busy with the CCAA tournament.
