Samantha Anderson, a fitness trainer from Brooks, Alta. is doing an arm workout at Anytime Fitness in Brooks on Nov. 25, 2020.
“Becoming a fitness trainer, I’ve always been active. Growing up I was active, going for hikes, going for walks,” says one Brooks fitness trainer who shared about her love for being physically active.
Samantha Anderson has experience in playing volleyball, basketball, track and field and badminton.
In her spare time, Anderson would get a group of friends together and would rent out a classroom in her school where her and friends would follow workout plans. That’s when her interest in becoming a personal trainer began.
Anderson went to Medicine Hat College to take the occupational/physical therapist assistant program. After she graduated from that program, she went on to complete her degree at the University of Calgary.
Since completing her degree, Anderson still upgrades her education by doing weekend courses.
“Basically, after the program took place, I had a two-weekend course and I had an anatomy background through schooling and I was going to school in Calgary for personal training. I would take the weekend course and then do some in-person testing.”
At one point in her career, Anderson trained as a personal trainer in Kelowna, B.C.
After living in Kelowna for a while, she came back to Brooks and launched her personal training business, Samantha Anderson Fitness.
She has been running her business for about two years now and is loving it.
“I’ve been working on my business for about two years now, it’s just myself. I do have an assistant that does help, but I basically love what I do, so it’s not really any hard work for myself.”
As a business owner, Anderson says you have to have a good mindset.
“Running your own business, you do have to have a good mindset cause even though I don’t have a client until 10 a.m., I still gotta wake up, start my morning routine, still have a good mindset going in, set my goals for the day.”
Anderson teaches a lot about mindset coaching and goal setting, for her clients and herself. She does this throughout her week to make sure is having a successful business.
There is a step-by-step process Anderson goes through to help her clients achieve their fitness goals. The first step is asking them why they want to achieve their fitness goal.
“Helping them achieve their fitness goal is first asking them why. Why are they wanting to, say lose the 10 pounds, what is the purpose? What is the underlying issue that they want to try to accomplish?”
Once clients really understand and know why they want to achieve their fitness goal, their mindset starts to shift and change, making them want to commit even more to their workout plan, she added.
After that, Anderson introduces them to their workout plan and helps them make a nutritional lifestyle change.
Based on reviews from her Facebook page, Samantha Anderson Fitness, she has been very successful in helping her clients achieve their fitness goals.
Corry Flatla, a client of hers says, “She’s a fantastic motivator and such an easy person to talk to!!! Samantha can help you overcome any obstacle you may have. I highly recommend joining her fitness classes!!”
Patrick Ockert, another client of hers says, “Sam is such an awesome personal trainer. She always puts in the effort to teach new work out techniques and strategies.”
