Canada defeats USA 9-8 in tie-breaker game

In a must-win game that was tense until the final rock, Team Canada defeated Team USA 9-8.

Both teams needed to win to keep their hopes for a medal alive.

Canadawas facing a different Team USA  than the team they beat to start the tournament. The U.S., after a 0-4 start, won their last seven games. Canada however, after their strong start at the beginning of the tournament, stumbled in their most recent games, dropping difficult decisions to Italy and Scotland.

After a scoreless first end, Canada came out swinging. Key misses
from Team USA skip Allison Pottinger allowed Heather Nedohin to give her team 4 points.

Despite Pottinger scoring a single point in the third end, Nedohin followed up with two more points in the fourth end to make it 6-1.

The U.S. began to narrow the gap at the halfway nark, starting with two points in the fifth end.

Heading into the 10th end, Team USA was trailing 9-7, and the final end could’ve gone to either team at multiple points.

However, Team USA was only able to score one point in the 10th end, allowing Canada to advance.

Canada will face the 3rd place Team Korea (8-3) tomorrow afternoon in the semi-finals at 1 p.m.

Top ranked teams Switzerland and Sweden will face off tonight at 7 p.m.
