Changes for Lethbridge transit

The City of Lethbridge made some changes to the city transit system, effective yesterday.

After reviewing ridership levels and evaluating efficiencies, routes 14 and 30 were identified as not meeting requirements.

As a result they have been removed. Routes 31, 20, 22 and 23/24 will be changed to service the missing routes.

The new maps are available now around the city and online.

Another change being made to the transit is the new electronic fare card called The Breeze. The card will be available Dec. 1 at the Lethbridge City Hall, Lethbridge College, and the Lethbridge city transit office.

Abby Davis, supervisor of operational system and planning Lethbridge transit, describes the card as a “reloadable gift card or credit card.”

The card will be very easy to use as it contains a chip that will be scanned on the transit bus. It will be reloadable either with money, a monthly pass or yearly pass.

The card will be registered in your name.

“If the card is lost we will cancel your current card so no one can use the money on it and a new card with the same amount will be issued to you,” Davis says.

In the spring of 2012 you will also be able to reload the card online for your convenience.
