Christmas activities around Lethbridge

Our city is full of Christmas cheer and there are many activities to get citizens in the spirit.

Enjoy the songs of the season at the Lethbridge Community Band Mayor’s Christmas Concert on Saturday at Southminster United Church. The Gold and Silver band, along with Vox Musica, will perform at 7:30 p.m. with Mayor Spearman as MC. Tickets are $15 and donations will be collected for both area food banks.

Van Arbor Homes has organized a self-guided Christmas Décor Tour in the Parade of Homes show home. For those wanting to gain new and unusual holiday decorating tips, visit 488 Arbourwood Ter. on Saturday.
Admission is $5 per person or $10 per family and proceeds go towards the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation.

On Monday, you won’t want to miss the CP Holiday Train making its voyage through Lethbridge behind Save-On Foods. The train of lights is raising money, food and awareness of hunger issues.

City Hall will be filled with carolers of all ages over the noon hour on various days through December. The annual Sounds of the Season will entertain visitors with many youth choirs, bands and hand bell performances. Bins will be set up to collect non-perishable food items and unwrapped toys and gifts. For a schedule of the performance dates, visit www.lethbridge.ca.

If the sight of Christmas lights makes your heart shine, the annual Kotch Christmas Lights Tour begins on Dec. 15.
Stephen Kotch will lead a parade of vehicles around to the best-dressed homes in town. The tour starts at the Exhibition grandstand at 5 p.m.

If you can’t make it to the tour, the Annandale House at 1280- 4 Ave. S. is a spectacular sight every year. Visit the Groves Christmas Lights at 28- Tudor Cres S to be amazed by over 13,500 lights synchronized to Christmas music on your radio.

Also the Brewery Gardens (head west on First Avenue. S) offers a Christmas light and music show from 4:30 p.m. – 11 p.m. if you tune into 96.5 FM.

Finally, for an old-fashioned family Christmas, The Great Canadian Barn Dance is hosting Christmas at the Barn on Dec. 21.
Skating, ice hockey, horse-drawn sleigh rides, live entertainment and a turkey dinner complete with a bonfire are only some of the activities you will enjoy.
