Coffman wins byelection

Jeff Coffman is Lethbridge’s newest alderman on city council with a total of 3,304 votes.  

With 10 candidates running, Coffman was in the clear. In second was Lea Switzer with a total of 1,363 votes then George McCrea following behind with 1,015 votes. Bal Boora had 944, Ken Tratch had 876, Blaine Hyggen had 771, Wade Galloway had 237, Kay Adeniyi had 231, Kevin Layton had 72 and Rod Hoeg came in last with a total of 30 votes.

A total of 12.95 per cent of people in Lethbridge voted in the byelection.

The candidates campaigned and attended forums throughout January to fill the empty seat on council.

Bob Babki, was one of the candidates who won a spot as alderman in the Oct. 8 election. Before the swearing in of the new council, Babki died suddenly from heart failure.

According to the City of Lethbridge, a council had to hold a byelection since there was a vacancy in the first 18 months following a general election.

Coffman will be sworn in on Monday as the newest member on council.
