Lethbridge College will be hosting their first keynote speaker at this year’s graduation convocation ceremonies.
Astronaut Col. Rick Searfoss will be making the keynote speech. Searfoss is a fighter pilot as well as a test pilot in the U.S. Air Force including over 6,000 hours of flying time in 73 different types of aircrafts.
Searfoss is a visionary with a passionate view of life-changing possibilities which will be expressed throughout his speech.
Lana Walsh, special event and program co-ordinator, says Searfoss’s speech is a great message to get across to graduates and is relevant to the event.
“Space travel came about because of a dream John F. Kennedy had laid out for the country and they worked really hard to get there. It was the answer to ‘where do we go from here?’ and ‘what is out there?’ so this message was pretty much what we were looking for in a speaker,” she says.
Walsh says she’s excited to welcome the first keynote speaker.
“I’m looking forward to seeing him come and hearing his speech.”
Searfoss will be speaking at both convocation ceremonies, Thursday April 28 at 2 p.m. and at the morning ceremony on April 29 at 10 a.m.
He will also be speaking on Thursday night in the college’s IB theatres at 7 p.m. It is opened to the community and is a family-friendly event.
