College enrolment continues to rise

Compared to last year, applications to the college for the January semester have increased 23 per cent from the same time last year, says Alison Grandmont, who works in registration at Lethbridge College.

Confirmation for programs is up 15 per cent from last year, she says.

The increase seems to be pretty steady across the board with increases in most programs.

This trend of increased enrolment began at the start of the year, the increase due to factors such as a slumping economy and less jobs available which have a higher competitiveness that may require a higher education.

The prospect of more students is always a good thing for post-secondary institutions.

“That’s our hope for any post-secondary institutions,” says Gwen Rosentreter, communication specialist.
