Canada’s only post-secondary chapter of Ducks Unlimited brings in about $23,000 per year.
The Ducks Unlimited banquet, held Friday night, is only one of the ways money is raised.
Different kinds of raffle tickets were sold for prizes collectively worth thousands of dollars.
Those who attended the banquet could purchase tickets in hopes of winning two different iPads or a chance to have a racing experience and drive an indie car.
The banquet also held live and silent auctions, a student silent auction and a general silent auction.
Up for auction were two different types of guns: a Mossberg 4×4 Bolt Action .270 Win Mag and a Remington M877 shotgun. A special edition guitar signed by Paul Brandt that could only be bought at a Ducks Unlimited dinner sold for $900.
“We thought we’d make $5,000. We quadrupled that in our first year,” said Kerry Edwards, faculty adviser, of what was expected of the college’s fundraising ventures.
Edwards also received an award that night for his 20 years in volunteering.
Edwards wasn’t the only person to receive an award that night.
Every year Ducks Unlimited hosts the Mentor Hunt. Around 40 first-time hunters go out with teachers and students to hunt ducks.
Lisa Walhstrom won an award for the hunt she attended. Walhstrom, with her first two shots, hit three ducks and was given a small trophy.
