COLUMN: Everything I know came from movies

Some of the classics like, Back to the Future showed me that the past affects the future, so try not to mess it up.
From the movie Adventures in Babysitting I learned that heroes aren’t just found in comic books. When you think about it, a lot of people seem like heroes -your parents, friends, etc.
I think everyone has a chance and the power to be a hero, we just don’t get cool super human strength and stuff.
Horror movies also teach you a lot, like how to kill vampires using garlic and a wooden stake, or when killing a zombie you just need a good headshot and you’re good to go. When facing ghosts you can simply call the Ghost Busters, and you always have to split up with your friends while in a haunted house, because you can cover more ground.
I recently saw Toy Story 3, which was an amazing movie that made me tear up a bit, but it taught me that your friends are there forever and of course, “you’ve got friend in me.”
It also taught me that we all have things we need to let go of. It could be anything like an old teddy bear, past relationships, a blanket, or perhaps a grudge involving an old friend.
Letting things go is hard, especially when we blame ourselves, but as Andy learned there’s always a time to let go. It may be hard but when it’s time – it’s time. In the end it’s for the best, because it’s time to move on and grow up.
There are also martial arts movies where it doesn’t matter if you are heavily outnumbered, because your enemies will wait patiently to attack you one-by-one by dancing around in an aggressive manner until you have knocked everyone out.
We learn lessons through many things, but especially in movies, because they are made to directly affect us and the world we live in.
