Whether you were a timid, shy first-year student or an excited second or third-year student, the school year is almost over. I’ve been at Lethbridge College for three years now, this being my final one. Through my experiences here I have learned a number of things. This is my final column for The Endeavour. This is the Top 10 Best things about college:
10. Campus. Over Christmas break I went to my old elementary school. Those things are small, even for me! Having a campus with so much to do is great! Not to mention the toilets are adult sized.
9. Instructors. That time you handed in an assignment late or got told to stop talking in class, your instructor probably wasn’t your best friend. But hey, we wouldn’t be here without them! Whether it was a textbook, lecture, assignment, or class discussions, it’s because of our instructors that we know what we know.
8. Experience. You’re finally living on your own. You’re the one responsible for your laundry, meals and getting up in time for class. While it’s nice to go home, having the experience of being on your own is cool once you’re a grown up. Let’s face it, you really do get to do whatever you want!
7. Having classes that don’t start until 12:30 p.m. Sleeping in during the week is a miracle in itself. Take advantage of your free mornings!
6. Scholarships. Who doesn’t like free money?
5. Atmosphere. When you walk through the doors at Lethbridge College you immediately take in the atmosphere. That atmosphere is different in everyone’s eyes. Fear, anxiety, excitement and happiness are just a few of many emotions you may feel. You may not realize it yet but overall, the atmosphere and the environment of the campus is a positive one. You will realize how much you’ve changed since that day.
4. Parties. Beer-pong, Flip-cup, Sociables, Quarters. You know those games – the ones you always regret playing in the morning? They’re the reason you didn’t get that paper done but they were good times spent with good friends during an awesome time of your life.
3. Graduation. One month from now, half of the student population, including me, will be graduating. Being at college has been awesome but now it’s time to take what we learned in the classroom and apply to the adventure of life.
2. Learning about yourself. I hate to sound like an inspirational movie trailer but college is a journey of self-discovery. You learn new things about yourself by being in this environment. You learn what you like, what you don’t, and the importance of your ethics, morals and beliefs.
1. Friends. Many of us come to college knowing no one. Maybe a few familiar faces but everyone is a stranger to everyone else. Through class bonding, playing on a sports team, or going to a party – you connect with people and create friendships that can last a lifetime. When you’re on opposite sides of the world, remember the good times and keep in touch!
Good luck to my fellow graduates and to those carrying on with their studies at Lethbridge College. Thank you to my loyal readers! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my column for the last two years, as much as I have enjoyed writing it.
Seek out the road to success, but don’t be surprised if you find it’s still under construction.
