Cosplayers connect at local Comic Con

Comic book fans converged on the D.A. Electric Barn this past weekend for the second-annual Lethbridge Comic Con. Creative costumes and overall enthusiasm from participants made the event a success.

The number of event goers increased each day, with the total number of visitors siting at approximately 1,500 people by the end of the weekend.

“The first day of Comic Con was a bit slow, but on Saturday and Sunday the Barn was filled with people in costumes,” said artist Melissa Sekela.

Student Erin Pollard said this is “one huge event that everyone comes together and meets new people and have fun and not care what other people think.”

“It combines a lot of different people from a lot of different communities, and it brings them all together,” said Pollard.  This is an event, which brings people of the community all together.

All fans got to meet their favourite cosplayers and local actors who made it to the big screen. Local actor Chad Rook has made appearances in shows such as SupernaturalBates Motel and Cedar Cove.

Other special guests included The A Team and Battlestar Galactica actor Dirk Benedict and comic book artist Nat Jones, who were in attendance for the whole weekend.

“Right now we are seeing a lot of comics and popular culture with the films and everything, and I think a lot of people are fans. At Comic Con, it gives them this opportunity to go out to find the merchandise, to meet the creators and to mingle with other fans,” said Nat Jones.
