Cancer patients will receive additional financial assistance due to the abundant generosity of Lethbridge citizens at MaxWell Realty’s eighth annual Cancer Kickers Cabaret. The event took place on Saturday evening with all proceeds going to help cancer patients in Southern Alberta.
The cabaret featured a silent auction and live auction with 99% of silent auction items donated from local companies and individuals. A wide variety of auction items were on display which included jewelry, artwork, and wine. Approximately 300 people attended the event held in the Main Pavilion at Exhibition Park.
Door prizes, a live band, midnight lunch, and a cash bar were all on site to satisfy and entertain those in attendance. Tickets for the event were purchased as corporate packages or individual tickets and were sold at the MaxWell Realty office in Lethbridge.
MaxWell Realty owner and broker of the Lethbridge office, Rick Braden has been involved in the cabaret for the last eight years. When asked why it is necessary to host a charity event of this nature, Braden said, “It’s important for any successful business or organization to give back to its community.”
Those at the cabaret, such as Wendy Borthwick of Bridge City Chrysler, felt the need to assist cancer patients in our area. Borthwick is a cancer survivor and believes it is vital to participate in this type of event.
“I have had cancer and try to support as many cancer fundraisers that I’m able to in the city,” explained Borthwick. It was Borthwick’s fourth year in attendance at the event with her colleagues.
Natasha Nelless of MaxWell Realty’s Lethbridge office also was in support of the cabaret. “I’m looking forward for everyone to have a good time, in a great atmosphere and raise some money for a good cause,” said Nelless.
The preparation and organization of the Cancer Kickers Cabaret is a year long process. MaxWell Realty expects to raise $20,000 for cancer which is approximately the same amount they brought in from last years event.
