The owners of the Cornerstone Funeral home seen their case adjourned after making their first court appearance Tuesday.
Faith and Ralph Zentner didn’t appear as their lawyer had the case set over to March 28. At the same time, the court heard that the Zentners will be represented by Calgary lawyer Balfour Der.
The Zentners both face charges of fraud of over $5,000 and offering an indignity to a dead human body or human remains. Lethbridge police charged them on Jan. 25 following an investigation that spanned five years.
The fraud charges stem from what police claim are about 47 different cases that occurred between 1996 and 2006. The funeral home owners denied the accusations in a statement they released following the charges.
The Alberta funeral board announced last month that no action will be taken against the funeral home after the matter has gone through court.
