Hearing that the White Stripes had broken up was not exactly a shock to fans. The band hadn’t produced new music since their last tour, nearly four years ago.
Guitarist and lead vocalist, Jack White and drummer Meg White were once married but continued producing music together after their divorce. The White Stripes have been claimed to make some of the best music of the last decade.
Mike Christensen, campus radio DJ on CRLC the Kodiak, says the White Stripes gave it all they had but all good things come to an end.
“I think that it was a respectable thing to do. They broke mutually because they felt they had accomplished everything musically that they had wanted to – rather than artists that grasp on to something from the past.”
The duo was together for 13 years and in that time released six studio albums.
The break-up was announced Feb. 2 on their website www.whitestripes.com and stated that they would no longer be recording new music or performing live.
