Every year the Fashion Design and Marketing students celebrate their convocation with a year-end fashion show, showcasing garments designed by the students. Added to the show this year will be exhibits for all of the programs in the School of Media and Design, which not only includes Fashion Design and Marketing but also Interior Design, Communication Arts and Multimedia.
The show is called “Collide-O-Scope,” a name that was decided from the instructors and the students of the program. “The word Kaleidoscope originates from the Greek words kalos and eidos, meaning beautiful form. This idea reflects the aspirations of the students in these diverse programs to join forces to create a spectacular event just as the objects in a kaleidoscope combine to create a complex pattern of constantly changing colours and shapes,” says program director Brenda Low.
The date of the show is April 24, and will be held on campus in the Val Matteotti gymnasium at 6 p.m. The shows purpose is to highlight what the graduating students have gained from their program.
The fashion students will be showing off the numerous lines of clothing that they have researched, designed and constructed, while the other programs have interactive displays set up around the gymnasium.
However, it’s not just the second year students that are involved in the fashion show “Its all second year dresses and then the first years have their skirts in too.” says Lindsay Sparrow, a first year Fashion Design and Marketing student. This year the students’ dresses will be auctioned off for a good cause as all the donations for the dresses go towards the humane society.
