Spending the last two years of my life in a newsroom, I’ve come to notice habits I’ve developed over that time period.
For instance, I’ve always watched the news (that’s the reason I’m in this field) but when it came to politics, my mind often went elsewhere.
But here I am on my second last day of school and what am I blogging about? The upcoming federal election.
I’d seen the Rick Mercer Report prior to my time in the newsroom but by the time I understood the jokes he made, the show was over. Not anymore.
The particular episode I saw had the regular rant from Mr. Mercer, but this one I felt was quite appealing and I definitely connected.
The announcement was made not too long ago that there would indeed be a federal election.
I’ve also come to realize that my opinion does make a difference in the way a community develops and I only wish more young people knew.
Rick Mercer had the same thoughts.
Election campaigning has begun and I notice more and more how the target is an older demographic rather than younger. This concerns me a little bit in the fact that soon all the young people will be old people. Who’s going to vote then?
I’ve experienced my fair share of elections though out the last year especially from Student Association elections at school to a national election.
This will also be the first time I am eligible and, believe me, I will be taking full advantage of the opportunity.
