Draw 9 of the Ford World Women’s Curling Championships saw team Canada redeem themselves after a loss to Denmark last evening.
Fresh off a 7-5 victory over China, also claimed last evening, Team Russia faced Canada this morning. Despite the absence of Canadian Second Jessica Mair, Canada beat Russia with a score of 7-5.
Although they weren’t able to obtain a win over the Canadians, skip Anna Sidorova and her team won some points for style with their unique uniforms.
After some back and forth scoring during the first five ends, the teams sat tied 3-3 going into the sixth.
A well played sixth end that had Canadian fans on their feet, set up Team Canada to enter the final end with a score of 6 – 5 in their favour.
Consistent game play from the Canadians prevented Team Russia from closing the gap and they claimed a 7 – 5 win.
Also in Draw 9, Switzerland defeated Scotland in the last end for a 5 – 4 victory. It was a frustrating match for Scottish Skip Eve Muirhead, who was visibly upset with the team’s performance.
China achieved a 7 – 6 win over Denmark, receiving some outstanding, vocal support from fans.
In the last game of Draw 9, Germany fell 9 – 7 to Team USA. Team Germany got a much-needed boost in the sixth end scoring three points. However, USA answered with three points of their own in the seventh and Germany was unable to come back.
