Winter has made its grand entrance into the province this week and drivers are being warned to slow down.
“It’s the same thing as it is every year. Slow down according to road conditions,” says Brian Aman with AMA Driver’s Education.
“Stopping is the most important. Some people get the false impression because they have a four-wheel or an all-wheel drive. No matter what you’ve got, your ability to stop makes all the difference.”
Aman also says to leave lots of space between vehicles to give room for either to stop.
The sudden blast of winter made the roads in and around Lethbridge icy and difficult to drive on. However, Aman says that the people in Lethbridge seem to be acknowledging the conditions.
“I live on the West side and in the past couple of days people have really slowed down over the year’s first snow. I haven’t seen many collisions on the hill. That’s a positive thing.”
According to the Lethbridge Police Service, there were a less than a dozen accidents reported on Tuesday and “maybe three or four” were reported as of Wednesday morning.
The snow is supposed to continue right through next week before slowly warming up.
