Dynamiques beat Tommies at game one of BMO CCAA Nationals

In the first game of the BMO 2012 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship, the fourth seeded team, the Cégep Sainte-Foy Dynamiques defeated the St. Thomas University Tommies 69-51. 

Top scorer for the Dynamiques was Sarah-Jane Marois with 23 points, and for the Tommies Jillian Lamoreau with 15 points.

The score at the end of the first quarter saw the Dynamiques coached by Patrick Dagenais ahead, 13-11 thanks to free throws by Gabrielle Girard and Audrey Roberge.

The second quarter opened with the Tommies in a strong defensive position, but Sarah-Jane Marois for the Dynamiques got through with a layup for two points, and Juliane Turcotte added another only moments later.

Two points by Dynamiques Justine Guay-Bilodeau took the score up to 21-12.

The Tommies, down by nine points, called a time-out to regroup. They came back charging a little stronger and guarding their net more heavily.

A time-out for Sainte-Foy in the last two minutes of play kept the team focused enough to maintain an eight-point lead. At the end of the second quarter, The Dynamiques lead 32-24.

The third quarter opened with just two points scored for the Dynamiques in the first two minutes.

A fall for Dynamiques Sarah-Jane Marois saw her helped off the court and replaced temporarily. She was back on the court in minutes.

Jillian Lamoreau for the Tommies had one of the few successful three-point shots of the game, narrowing the point gap to a six-point separation.

A strong offensive game by the Dynamiques led to a 14-point lead nearing the end of the third but a static offence for the Tommies left the score at 54-37 for the Dynamiques.

Free throws by Justine Guay-Bilodeau for the Dynamiques created a 21-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter, but Kelly Vass and Kelly Debow for the Tommies fought back with a three-pointer each.
