Election candidates have ties to Lethbridge College

The upcoming civic elections have a strong tie to the Lethbridge College.

Two candidates running for mayor and five seeking a seat on city council are linked to the Lethbridge College.

James Frey, once a part of LC public relations, is running for mayor. Cheryl Meheden, who was formerly on the LC Board of Governors and chair for School of Business, is also seeking the mayor’s position.

Former instructors Shaun Ward and Margaret Simmons and former student Ryan Parker are running for aldermen. Faron Ellis, on campus political scientist, and Bob Babki, Lethbridge college graduate of 1961 who also spent five years as chairman of the Board of Governors in the 1970s, are also going after a seat on council.

Currently there are five candidates running for mayor and 23 candidates running for aldermen.

Sandra Dufresne, who looks after the college’s Alumni Association, is seeking to be re-elected to the Holy Spirit school board.

The final day to get nominations in is Sept. 20.  Election day is the third Monday in October –  Oct. 18.
