Election experience

The elections were here and now done. Don’t get me wrong; there will still be a rave on this, just not the full thrill of covering stories and getting to know the candidate that I chose to write on.

When the whole elections topic was brought up, I was not excited at all. Every time I hear that word I cringe because I can never get the whole concept of the elections.

Starting out was hard. I was nervous to contact my mayoral candidate Kay Adeniyi, but once I did I felt like I was a part of the elections.

Talking with Adeniyi made me understand the whole concept of elections. After having a one-on-one interview with him beforehand, I could not wait for elections night.

On the night of the elections I had the privilege to hang out with my candidate at his party. Seeing all the excitement and faith in the room was amazing. Even though Kay was in last place on the poll, everyone in the room was still cheering for him. I was even getting in there too and cheering when the percentage by his name got higher.

From knowing nothing about elections and getting thrown in to the middle of them like a pack of wolves was a great experience. While I was writing my story on the elections it was tough to limit the amount of words. I could have written on and on about the experience I had.

Being involved and taking initiative of what’s going on in the city around you is very important. We are the next generation and if we do not become a part of what is going on around us, then I am scared to think what our world is going to look like when it is left in our hands.
