Election night my P.O.V

The word election doesn’t usually sound all too exhilarating. This was my thought until election night arrived.

I had never voted in an election prior to this one, and I still didn’t see what the big deal was.

Nevertheless I had done my research and voted in the Lethbridge civic election.

I arrived at Average Joes Sports bar in downtown Lethbridge to cover Chris Spearman’s election party.

The amount of excitement in the room was overwhelming. Everyone was laughing, smiling and having a good time, and there was also a sense of nervousness in the crowd.

I did a short interview with Spearman who seemed confident in the turnout and afterwards there was nothing to do but wait.

As the election results began, the crowd hovered around the projection screen as if they were going to miss something if they simply blinked.

The bar became quiet except little bits of chatter among groups, and the occasional shutter of my camera.

The night was a constant up and down flow of clapping, cheering and sighing.

This turned out to be more exciting then I had previously thought. I was soon getting into the energy as everyone else, and found myself clapping.

In the end everyone was in high spirits despite Spearman’s loss.

Spearman said he had no regrets about his campaign, which is all you can really say is fully satisfied that he did his best.

This experience is something that I cannot wait to do again in the future.
