Elections help students get involved

The college cafeteria was taken over by politics on Sept. 20 as candidates for the Students’ Association elections gave their speeches.

Five candidates are running for six positions as student representatives.

Second-year broadcast journalism student, Sarah De Coste, is running for student representative.

“I want to host YTV and that’s no joke…I want to step out of my comfort zone and help others as well.” Sarah De Coste took interest in the position after being involved in college frosh week.

Jessica  DeCoste, a second-year print journalism student running for student representative, describes herself as “fun-loving and upbeat.” Jessica DeCoste keeps herself busy as the editor of the first three issues of the Endeavour.

Student representative Rob Broadhead wants the college to be the best it can be for everyone.

“I want to help school be a place for people to feel encouraged.”

Kitty Buck, a mother of two, is running for student representative. She hopes to be a resource at the college.

“I want to make the most of interaction with students.”

Candace Graham, a small town girl from Warner says, “I want my needs met as well as yours and for information to be as clear as possible.”

Three Lethbridge College students are running for LCSA president.

Kirk Beamer, a returning student in the Engineering Program, spent two years as a missionary with his church and hopes to become more involved in college life.

“I feel responsible to help the students who come after me,” said the father of two.

Allie Workamp, a third year business student from Saskatchewan says communication is key.

“I would have an open door policy to help your ideas become reality.”

Presidential candidate, Bob Reese Jr., did not prepare a speech for his campaign.

“I discovered a thing called Twitter last night,” he said jokingly. Reese promises to be more creative in the future if elected.

Students can vote for their preferred candidates Sept. 29 and 30 from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M
