Electronic Music Festival brings community together

Electronic music artist Hypesetterz takes to the Luminosity Stage at Lethbridge’s Electronic Music Festival on Sept 25, 2021.

Local vendors and residents got the opportunity to celebrate live music at the Lethbridge Electronic Music Festival last weekend.

Despite new restrictions laid out by the Government of Alberta, the event was allowed to go ahead as planned.

This was due to the event being deemed low-risk, according to a statement by the event organizers.

Isabelle Guilmette, the owner of Washboard Soapery & Such was very happy the event was able to take place.

“I think that it’s so important [to have a] connection with people despite what’s happening,” Guilmette said.

She says it was a great opportunity to smile and talk to each other in a positive environment.

When Guilmette heard about the opportunity to be at the festival, she couldn’t turn it down.

“I just love the music so much,” she said.

Though it was her first time at the event, she said she would gladly come back to promote her self-care business.

“Sales have been good, so I’m pleased to be here. It is a lot of fun.”

Vendors were not the only ones enjoying being at the all-ages festival and the opportunity it provided.

Trevor Selego, a local festival attendee was excited about what events like this mean and was happy the event took place.

“The city and authorities are working together to make everything good, so [it was great to] let me go somewhere and enjoy the day,” said Selego.

He attended the event when it first started at 11 a.m. and had been there for several hours.

“I like it, it was an amazing day,” Selego added.

He said he was looking forward to when the pandemic is no longer an issue.

“Soon everything will be better,” added Selego.

The annual event was deemed a success by its organizers who thanked the community for their support in a Facebook post.

They hosted several talented artists on two separate stages, with performances by Skratch Bastid, Hypesetterz and many more.

The event had a 50/50 draw delayed due to technical difficulties but they managed to host a LIVE video of the draw.

Over the past events, LEMF has had performances by multiple DJs each year on two stages.

They hosted food and drink vendors, beer gardens and a kid’s zone.

The organization is a registered non-profit group in Lethbridge with a focus on sharing their passion with the community.

The event was made possible through the Heart of the City initiative in conjunction with the City of Lethbridge, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, local sponsorships as well as fundraising.
