Moustaches are taking over Lethbridge College this November.
Starting Nov. 1 participating men will start off clean-shaven then grow a mustache the next 30 days for the annual Movember event.
The event was created to raise awareness for men’s health and prostate cancer. It began in Australia almost nine years ago and has become an internationally acclaimed campaign.
Lethbridge College is taking on the event in full force and has a team registered in Movember.
Mike McCready, Movember team member and college employee, has been creating awareness by growing a moustache and placing updates on Facebook, Twitter and e-mail. McCready has set a personal goal of raising $500.
“My dad was a bladder cancer survivor and has been good for five years,” said McCready. “I want to give people with men’s health problems the chance my father had.”
As for keeping the ’stache, McCready says it will be gone Nov. 30. He is not a fan of the extra hair on his face.
The Students Association will have an information booth and donation box set up outside the LCSA office throughout November. A fun event at the end of the month featuring awards and a shave-off is being planned.
All money raised at the college will be donated to Prostate Cancer Canada to fund research for advance screening tests, provide ongoing treatment options and run support services for men battling prostrate cancer.
