Farewell to graduating vollyball players

The women’s volleyball team took a loss this weekend against the Mount Royal Cougars with a score of 3-0 at Friday’s away game and 3-1 at home.

The home game on Saturday got underway after some short presentations to two soon-to-be Kodiak alumni.

Courtney Peterson is completing her third year of Business Administration while Brittany Noble is finishing her fifth year of General Studies.

Peterson and Noble received floral bouquets as their teammates and coaches paid a tribute to the two players who are described as hard-working and dedicated.

Although the team was unsuccessful against Mount Royal, that didn’t stop some fans from showing their support – in some cases, the wrong kind of support. During the second set, a group of front-row fans received a warning from the official for some unsportsmanlike comments and conduct.

Noble took home the title of player of the game for the Kodiaks, while Lindsay Kist received the honour for the Cougars.

Games for the men’s team were split over the weekend, with a 3-1 win for the Cougars in Calgary on Friday, and a 3-0 victory for the Kodiaks at Saturday’s home game.

The men’s game on Saturday also began with a farewell to three graduating players.

Steve Carston will continue his volleyball career at the University Of Regina while completing a degree in Education.

Glen Lengyel bounced back after two injuries and an illness to complete his time as a Kodiak with nearly 800 kills.

Tommy Lyon, dubbed “Front Row Tommy” by fans at Saturday’s game (or “Back Row Tommy, depending on his position at the time), will be graduating with a business diploma this year.

Player of the game went to Vitor Macedo for the Kodiaks. Jorden Lantz took the title for the Cougars.
