Fashion students prepare for annual Collide-O-Scope fashion show

Fashion students transformed a hallway into a catwalk last week, providing a sneak peak of the upcoming, year-end fashion show.

As part of their fashion promotions class, second-year fashion design and marketing students put together a mini-fashion show displaying four lines. The show included a glimpse of what spectators will be seeing during the year-end Collide-O-Scope event.

“The (mini-fashion show) I’m a part of is the 1920s,” explains second-year Troy Coutts. For this mini-show they included modern versions and actual 20s style dresses.

“It’s this contrast between garments from the actual 1920s and our interpretation,” he explains. “There are four garments that are going to be in Collide-O-Scope that are student designed and the rest have been borrowed from the university costume shop.”

The mini-show, held on March 6, was filmed by second-year communication arts students and showcased in the Cave yesterday. Apart from seeing a preview into the year-end event it also displayed a day to night transition line, accessorizing with shoes, and a glamorous fur line.

Coutts describes the assignment as a “crash course” for putting on fashion shows and a gives them a good sense of what to expect for the actual event.

“Basically it’s throwing us into putting together a really quick fashion show and trying hold everything that a fashion show needs to be successful,” he explains. “It definitely gives us a (way to) anticipate problems like quick changes, model order (and) fit problems.”

Collide-O-Scope, which will be held April 28, showcases not only students from the fashion design and marketing program, but also those in multimedia productions, communication arts and interior design.
