The closing of park meadows Safeway has affected the shopping habits of loyal customers. Finding a store to fill their prescriptions has been a challenge.
Not only has the announcement of the Park Meadows Safeway affected the shopping habits the customers, It has also affected where people can fill their prescriptions.
As of October eighth 2014 at 5 .p.m the Pharmacy at the Park Meadows location will be closing for good. Customers now have to find other pharmacists to fill their prescriptions; they choose to shut the doors early. Every customer that has refills past October eighth that haven’t found a new pharmacist will have their information sent to the Bluefox Blvd. Sobeys location.
With three pharmacies within a five-block radius of the Park Meadows location most have decided to make the switch in the last couple months. With very few people still having refills at that location Safeway has seen no reason to keep the pharmacy in the Park Meadows store open.
With the closure less than 9 weeks away all of the loyal customers of the Park Meadows Safeway location have been forced to find other places to shop. This has caused a great deal of up-roar in from the regular customers that don’t like the fact the store is closing.
With a majority of the customers at the Park Meadows location being older and not being able to drive, it was a convenience for them to shop there because it’s within walking distant. Many are concerned with winter coming up that the walk to Sobeys or Walmart is way too far in the cold.
Ella Martin said, “It’s going to be tough to see this store close down, more so for the seniors that don’t drive. They will have to take a bus or get a family member to drive them to do their shopping which is a shame.”
There are a lot of customers that are loyal to Safeway because they like their Safeway brand products. They are a cheaper alternative to the brand name products and are still high quality.
Harold Martin said, “I like the Safeway brands and I’m not going to drive to the south side of town to get them.”
There are also a lot of customers that shop at the Park Meadows location because of their relationships with the employees. Most of the loyal customers are on a first name basis with the employees and enjoy the conversations they have each time there in the store.
“I’ve been shopping here seen the store opened, and I’m disappointed because of the relationships I have with the staff,” said Margaret Grinwood.
With two months before the store closes its doors for good it’s safe to say the general consensus is that the customer are not happy about it. But no matter how they feel there’s no changing the fact the store is closing as of December sixth.
