Galt Gardens light up during festival

It really is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.

On Friday Nov. 18, Lethbridge held its 11th annual Bright Lights Festival at the Galt Gardens Park.

The Downtown Business Revitalization Zone joined with City of Lethbridge’s Heart of Our City Committee to provide this year’s event with nearly 1,000 more lights.

The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the park at 6:30 p.m.

Free popcorn, hot chocolate, hot apple cider and coffee were handed out to those who braved the cold and snow to get in on the holiday spirit. Admission to the event was also free.

Hot dogs and hamburgers were provided by the London Road Neighbourhood Association with proceeds going to local charities.

Children’s Christmas movies were played, free face painting was available and hayrides were offered. Santa Claus was also on hand for those who wished to say hi and give him their Christmas list.

The Made Show and Sale, which showcased the works of local artists, was next door to the festival in the Southern Alberta Art Gallery. The fourth annual sale featured a variety of jewellery, knitting, pottery, baked goods and art.

Midnight Madness was also held in combination of the festival. Stores that participated were open until late in the evening and offered special Christmas pricing on their products.

(Getting pictures with Santa was one of the many activities available for families at the Bright Lights Festival.)
