Game 4: Algonquin Thunder beats UNBC Timberwolves

The Algonquin Thunder beat the UNBC Timberwolves 74-62 in
game four of the CCAA 2012 BMO Women’ Basketball National Championships.

Top scorer for the Thunder was Abeer Farhat and for the UNBC
Timberwolves it was number seven, Kady Dandeneau.

The Algonquin Thunder scored the first 3 points of the game
within minutes but the UNBC Timberwolves quickly took the lead.

It was a fast first period with a lot of back and forth
fighting between the teams.

There was a lot of communication between the players of both
teams but that doesn’t mean everything went smooth. There were fouls for both
teams as they both executed strong defensive plays.

Player number five for the Algonquin Thunder Jesa Reda put
the Thunder in the teens for scoring.

By the end of the first quarter it was 18-17 for the
Algonquin Thunder.

Jennifer Bruce of the Timberwolves scored the first point of
the second quarter and then the Timberwolves scored again, pulling into the
lead.

With six and a half minutes left in the quarter top scorer
for the Thunder Sandre Bascoe tied the game. Minutes later she scored again.

Bascoe also played good offense when it came to intercepting
the ball.

By the end of the second quarter it was 35-34 for the
Timberwolves.

It was a quick start for the Thunder in the third quarter as
Bascoe scored 30 seconds into the play, followed closely by Thunder guard Farhat.

It was a slower start for the Timberwolves and their defence
wasn’t as strong as it had been in the first two quarters. The Thunder was able
to pull ahead for a 47-40 lead.

At the end of the third quarter the Thunder had a 52-46
lead.

It was an intense start to the final quarter. Both teams
scored within the first minute.

There was a shot by Jennifer Clyne, Timberwolves top scorer,
which brought her team three points.

It was a rough, fast quarter. Both teams brought up their
offence and defence. But for the Timberwolves it wasn’t enough.

Tomorrow at 3 p.m. the Timberwolves will take on the Lethbridge
College Kodiaks and at 8 p.m the Algonquin Thunder will take on the Dawson
Blues

First game tomorrow is at 1 p.m. Tomorrow it’s the St.
Thomas Tommies against the Seneca Sting.
