Game night added to college intramural lineup

Wednesday nights at the college are reserved for the gamers.

Recently, intramurals have begun at Lethbridge College, which includes game night every Wednesday and Friday nights.

The college is excited to begin its launch into E-sports, but someone even more excited is Multimedia Production instructor Allyson Cikor.

Cikor is part of a team of teachers across the college hoping to share their love of gaming with students at the school. The first game they decided to get students to play was Smash Bros Ultimate, a party fighting game where you eliminate your opponent.

“Everyone has had some exposure to Smash and that’s why it’s a good thing to start with. I’ve been playing Kirby since the 64,” said Cikor who believed Smash was a great game to introduce to this dedicated group of gamers.

Other than Smash Bros. students can choose to play a variety of games ranging from Valorant, a first-person shooter to League of Legends, a team-based online battle arena game.

Valorant teammates strategizing.

This variety is one of the things Cikor hopes will bring more people to participate.

“I knew we were going to have an Esports lab, but I didn’t know they were doing Apex. So, now I’m excited about that,” said league player Dylan Coakes.

The other thing they are hoping will attract students to game night is the possibility of prizes. If students are having a good day gaming, they could walk away with college gear including shirts, water bottles and other great prizes.

And with a wide selection of games ,there’s a possibility anybody could walk away with some swag.

One of the people helping hand out prizes and participating was Jacob Friend. Friend is a staff member who also has a history playing Smash Bros and said, “It’s great having all these people out here I hope to see everyone again next week!”

Students can sign up for game night at the LCSA. For only $15, students are allowed to come to every game night and be eligible for prizes.
