Gender neutral bathrooms on the rise

When you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go.

But what if the decision on where to do so wasn’t such an easy decision for you to make?

For transgender students, this is an everyday reality. There are an increasing number of transgender students in post-secondary schools and not all feel comfortable having to choose bathrooms for men or women.

There has been talk recently at the University of Winnipeg, along with other post-secondary institutions about the possibility of implementing gender-neutral washrooms for such students.

Though the issue has not been brought to the attention of Lethbridge College, Gwen Wirth,

communications specialist, says that if the issue for gender-neutral washrooms were to arise on campus, the college would look into accommodating it for students.

The topic was brought about once before at the University of Calgary, as well as the University of Alberta, both of which have not yet implemented any type of gender-generic facilities.
