Giant Lego land on Earth

What do giants, Lego and the ocean have in common?

You’re right, pretty much nothing, but this is where you keep reading.

A giant Lego-man was found washed up on a Florida shore on Oct. 25.

He stood eight feet tall, red pants, blue shirt and all. His back bore his name, Ego Leonard, and “No real than you are” covered the front of his plastic, slightly fashionable, shirt.

According to giant Lego-man’s website, www.egoleonard.nl, (yes, he has his own website) the essence of his being is explained.

His website tells a story of how he came from a “virtual world” that has become taken over by “fortune-hunters” and “people drunk with power.” Obviously, this led him to find rescue on Earth.

Clearly, he doesn’t know that we’ve got problems too.

Anyway, his story gets better. He wants us to show him all the “beautiful things there are to admire” in our world.

The site expresses concerns with society claiming that we’re required to place ourselves within a certain group or ultimately be considered an outsider. It goes on to encourage those to “discover all the beautiful things in our non-virtual world instead of creating an ideal situation in a virtual world?”

The translation of the page from German to English isn’t all that smooth, hence the question mark at the end of the sentence. But ultimately, if this is more than just a giant gag, I think the creators might actually have a good message.

Many people escape from the “real world” by engrossing themselves in social networking, video games, even movies and TV.  It’s easy to forget or take for granted what the world itself has to offer.

So, finish reading this blog and take a walk outside. Or at least go watch the Discovery Channel.
