Brynlee and London Medd are participating in the Giant Pumpkin Festival’s pumpkin crafts station on Saturday afternoon. The pumpkin crafts allowed the girls to paint pumpkins with sparkles, paint and different objects to create their very own unique pumpkin.
Children and families gathered last weekend to kick off fall festivities all for a good cause.
The 30th annual Giant Pumpkin Festival and Auction took place Saturday at Green Haven Garden Centre with a variety of activities.
The family festival was designed to bring people together for a fun-filled day, while raising funds and awareness around children living with life-threatening illness.
All funds raised throughout the event are donated towards the Children’s Wish Foundation. The foundation was hoping to raise enough money to grant three wishes this year. Each wish amounted to roughly $10,000.
Shannon Elves, Committee Chair for the Giant Pumpkin Festival and Auction, said everyone will find an activity to enjoy at the festival.
“We have so many activities. We have the petting zoo, the wagon rides, face painting, kids crafts, bouncy castles and then, the live and silent auction,” Elves said.
The festival also held a live auction which included selling the largest grown pumpkins in the area. The largest one weighed in at just over 720 pounds and sold at the auction for a total of $200.
Susannah Burns, Giant Pumpkin Festival participant said she attends the event every year since her nephew was a beneficiary recipient of Children’s Wish several years ago.
“I think it brings people together. It makes people feel connected as a society, interacting with each other, rather than just staying inside by yourself with electronics,” Burns said.
The Children’s Wish Foundation representative said they were overjoyed with the turn out this year and loved seeing all the happy faces around the festival.
