Spinning tires and people getting their vehicles stuck pretty much sums up winter is here to stay.
Is winter really that bad though?
Walking around the school hearing people complain about the fluffy white snow and the cold wind throwing ice pellets in their faces makes me think about all the reasons why I like winter.
Face it, summer does not let you build snow forts and ambush people with snowballs.
Winter allows you to create fun activities with your imagination such as building a snowman, enjoying outdoor skating, watching the good ol’ hockey game or, for some, curling.
Winter is when you can start up your snowmobile and travel across the wide-open prairies without having to wait for traffic or worry about slews.
Even for those who don’t like winter, you can still do summer activities during winter.
Having a wiener roast in the cold, sitting around a nice warm fire and relaxing with friends, is just as good as in the summer.
Fishing, you can do this on a boat or you can do this on the ice. Either way it is still fishing, the only thing that has changed is the weather and possibly your outfit.
Yes, the driving can be a downside, but if you end up getting stuck in a snow bank or accidentally hit the ditch, you are going to have a story to carry with you the rest of your life.
In a recent poll done by the Weather Network, the question was how much snow do you think is enough? The top response out of five categories was “I love winter, so there is never enough” with 36 per cent. The second most popular response was “none” with 35 per cent. Those who said five centimetres tied at 10 per cent with those who said 20cm. Last place, with nine per cent of votes, went to those who say 10cm is just right.
Sure, it may be snowy and cold most days, but why not make the best of winter considering it is going to stay with us for at least five more months?
