October is an exciting time for many people.
The weather is starting to cool down, leaves are changing colour and for one Lethbridge woman, Halloween is a big deal.
Moonlight Spooktacular is an event designed to bring together family and friends for a week-long experience.
In support of the Lethbridge Foodbank, Moonlight Spooktacular is also in partnership with Get lost Corn Maze, BMK, Tycas Energy LTD, Fort Whoop-up, Gymfinity, Circo de Nefelibata and bridge city events.
Event coordinator Beverly Kehoe is planning an exciting event for all ages.
“Moonlight Spooktacular is an interactive entertainment experience with thrills and chills for all ages,” Kehoe said.
It is an event that is designed for everyone to enjoy, whether you like arts and crafts, ghost or goblins, there is something to keep you entertained.
“The haunted hay ride is definitely the highlight of this event,” she said.
In addition to the Haunted Hay ride, the Moonlight Spooktactular will offer Jack-0-Lantern crafts, Ghost Stories and bonfires.
On the last three nights Circo de Nefelibata, a local circus troupe from Gymfinity Gymnastics will be performing.
The group has been working hard in dress rehearsals to make sure the performance is one to remember.
From long rehearsal nights, to long days prepping props, Kehoe is doing everything she can to make sure the event is perfect.
The event takes place from Oct. 22 – Oct. 24, as well as Oct. 28 – Oct. 31 when Circo de Nefelibata is set to take the stage.
One special way to get the community involved is through a pumpkin carving contest to children around Lethbridge.
“We are delivering pumpkins to schools across the city and will have over 50-themed pumpkins on display at the event.”
People who attend this event are able to place their vote on these pumpkins and the winner will win the title for best pumpkin.”
Kehoe is also giving away free tickets to individuals who are inviting members to the page.
One lucky winner, Sara Joe a third-year university student is excited to learn she won the contest.
“I don’t know much about the event yet,” Joe said. That will not stop Joe from attending Moonlight Spooktacular this week, as she is looking forward to see what the event has to offer.
Moonlight Spooktacular takes place at Fort Whoop-up and Manager Dorran Degenstein says this is something much different for Fort Whoop-up.
“It’s Halloween [season] and Halloween is becoming popular,” Degenstein adds.
He then goes on to compare Moonlight Spooktacular to a similar show that is held in Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
“If you do further research, Halloween shows like this are very popular in the states,” he said.
