How to deal with mistakes

Everyone has done or said something that they are not proud of. I am no exception to that rule, but there are some ways you can help fix a situation that you have created.

First thing you need to do is apologize. It may not seem like much, but it makes a real difference. A heart-felt apology lets the person see that you understand you did something wrong.

The second thing you need to do is to have a discussion. Explain that you realize you have done something wrong. This helps the other person know that your brain did not work at the time you said or did something you shouldn’t have.

Now, if you did this in front of a group of people, you need to make sure you apologize to everyone that was around at that time. This helps the person or people you have offended know you are trying to make it right with everyone, not just one person.

Finally, you have to forgive yourself. When I do something wrong, I am always hardest on myself. People will criticize you, and ridicule you, but you have to know when it’s time to forgive yourself. Take a minute to cry, or to let your anger out, and then forgive yourself and move on.

The one thing that you always have to remember is, you are only human, and humans make mistakes. As long as you learn from those mistakes, you will have a better understanding on how to watch what you say.
