Hurricanes can’t snap losing streak

The Hurricanes had another unsuccessful weekend, concluding October without a win.

Friday night, Lethbridge hosted the Portland Winter Hawks. The ‘Canes, struggling with an injury-plagued team and the flu now spreading around, took to the ice with only 16 healthy players.

In the first period the Hurricanes came out strong. Sam Mckehnie scored the first goal half way into the period. The assists went to Nick Buonassisi and Spencer Galbraith.

In the second period Portland took control and scored three straight goals in just over five minutes. At the end of the second, Portland lead 3-1 and outshot the ‘Canes 12-7.

An empty net goal in the third handed the Hurricanes their 12th straight loss by a score of 4-1.

Saturday night the Hurricanes were in action again, hosting the Red Deer Rebels. In the first period, Red Deer controlled the game and scored their first goal. They outshot Lethbridge 14-5.

By the end of the second period the Hurricanes were goalless and the Rebels lead 4-0.

The game continued in the Rebels’ favour. Patrick Bartosak, the Rebels’ goalie, ended the game with a 5-0 shutout. The ‘Canes finish up the month with their 13th straight loss, and a record of 2-13-0-1.

The Hurricanes will have a few days off and hope to break the losing streak on Wednesday at home against the Everett Silvertips.
