Hurricanes give back

To some professional hockey players, ice time is what it’s all about. But here in Lethbridge, our very own Hurricanes make it a huge part of their season to give back to the community and to help raise awareness with larger organizations.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes players lead a very busy life; they can commonly be seen giving back to the community. Operations Christmas Child Organizer Jacky Ketal says working with the Hurricanes benefits them both.

“When you think of Lethbridge and you think of sports what comes to mind? Lethbridge Hurricanes! So, to have them being involved in charity work I think that adds to their presence and it adds to what we’re doing as well… we’re trying to serve the kids around the world so to me it’s a win-win,” says Ketal.

For Rookie Jaeger White, events like these are what giving back is all about.

“We have a lot of people that do stuff for us in the community and all around…anytime we can do something for a good cause and give back we’re happy to do it,” says White.

Not only do the Lethbridge Hurricanes support large charities like Operations Christmas Child, they also support the local community by going and visiting schools and participating in the family skate.

With the boxes going all over the world, the Hurricanes also support the children right here in Lethbridge.

“We also have minor hockey teams that we go to each week and help them out with practices,” says White.

This past weekend they also played back-to-back games supporting the Lethbridge food bank, and had a military appreciation night.

This has been the first time the Canes helped with the boxes and next year the organization is hoping they can participate once again.
